Target Field: March of Dimes Day 2012

A year has come and gone already, I honestly can't believe this! If you aren't a regular follower of this blog, our family is HUGE supporter for the March of Dimes. Back in April a bunch of Harrison's supporters got together for the March for Babies walk to raise money for research for prematurity and health for babies.

Last August we participated in March of Dimes Day at the Minnesota Twins Target Field. Even though back at 18 months we never sat down that day, it was blast. This year was no exception, a blast. We couldn't of had a more well behaved 2.5 year old anyone could ask for (and we sat in our seats). The only thing more we could have asked for is claiming victory in the 10th inning which the Twins weren't successful doing so.

Win, no win didn't spoil this day and neither did the unusual 66 degree August day and a little rain.

Before the game we got to walk around the field and watch the first pitch being thrown out.

 He liked mascot TC from a distance.

 I think (know) this was his the highlight of the game.

 

And I put away the camera, but I think an i-phone pic will do for how we were feeling in the last inning, right before the loss of the game.

Linked 52: Shadows

A challenge.


Shadows are not easy to capture on cloudy, rainy days...which has been the most recent stretch of weather around here. The sun decided to show itself off a bit tonight after another soaking rain.

My husband quickly reminded me that reflection is not the same as shadow...but I just love these.

 These two cuties in addition to our man are our next door neighbors...We talk about moving often realizing current homes are not our forever homes, but it's moments when all three kids are together and your home suddenly feels larger.



 Love this row of hand holding, children have a way of melting our hearts.

Oh Whitney Dog

Whitney Dog joined our family in 2005.

I begged Doug for a puppy when we purchased our house that January. Doug told me we would have to wait until we wed that June. June came and went, no puppy.

The puppy didn't come and didn't come...I sort have lost hope that I would convince him until I made a trip to the local Humane Society and fell in love with this...

Behind those eyes Whitney would tell you she came from a puppy mill. By the time she was 1.5 years old she delivered two litters of puppies, the second delivery none of her puppies survived. She was one of 11 dogs/puppies that rescued that day and the last one to be adopted.

Since then she been ours. Last month we celebrated 7 year since she joined our family.

In September 2010 we were told the baseball mass inside her abdomen was cancer and we should take her home and enjoy what time we had with her. We opted to have the tumor removed and pray for the best...but it only got more complicated when she was sent to the University of Minnesota where they could specialize in the removal only to be told the tumor was not removable because it had spread all over her chest cavity. Long story short if you don't follow our blog, she doesn't have cancer, but an infection that mimics, acts and grows like cancer. This was nearly two years ago. Two years ago is a long time in dog years a some 14 years. Her future continues to be unknown, so we take every single day as blessing she is with us.

Despite having a horrific home life as a young dog, going through 2 major surgeries, she has never stopped being herself, being the Whitney Dog we know. This is why we are opting to have surgery done this fall/winter for knees. Recovery is about 8 weeks, which is why we aren't doing the surgery this summer. Right now she is on medications to help with manage the pain in her aging joints. Age is catching up with her, but at 8 she still has some wonderful years a head of her. The cost of surgery is about $1,200...which would bring the total of her care to well over $6,000. Call us crazy all you want, but you can't put a price on a family member.  She's amazing and the best dog any little boy could ever ask for.

Got Milk?

Sometimes it's the simple things in life, like milk bubbles.

And with milk...you need cookies.

But  WAIT this is not your ordinary cookie.

They are easy to make and even easier to eat.

A raining evening +Pinterest=a whole lot of goodness.

My words of advice when following this recipe...Really smash cookie dough together with the Graham crackers or you end up with a huge cookie mess.



Linked 52: Water

This is my favorite linked post yet. It couldn't be a more of a perfect theme for this 2.5 year old who has been water obsessed since day one. I can't find it in myself to correct his "Wah, Wah"....with W-A-T-E-R quite yet.

We spent last Sunday afternoon at the Como Zoo in St. Paul, MN. Instead of paying the outrageous prices to get into the zoos kiddie water park, we ventured to downtown St. Paul and had plenty of fun (and cooled off) in these FREE fountains after we visited the animals.

 Look! I got myself in a shot! I am trying hard (REALLY HARD) to give up the camera controls, so I can be part of memories...This photos and the next, captured by daddy.

About me...Yes you read correctly.


Two years ago this month I started to pursue photography from more than a hobby to career. By no means is photography my full time job. In fact I hate to even call it a job because it's something I love so much. (The details, colors, lighting, moments, love it all). It's such rewarding work, not only do I get to meet new fantastic couples and families but it's also rewarding seeing how I have grown as a photographer.

With only two years under my belt, I have several, several more years to go. I follow a ton of cool blogs, numerous Facebook Pages and only aspire to improve with every session. I have also admitted I am a Pinterest addict which I think goes hand in hand with photography these days!

I have a website...but between work, photography work, and family it's badly outdated. It will however undergo a makeover when I am on maternity leave, so hopefully I will be welcomed back into the twenty-first century after that.

One of my favorite things to capture is everyday moments. I know I have said it before, but worth saying again. I love those goofy faces and not quite perfect photos that make the capture perfect. Another thing I love is having this blog to post those moments and not so perfect photos. I spend about a quarter of time editing my own photos as I do clients. Lighting, colors, clarity and quality don't seem to bother me as much as I focus on the actual capture itself. In fact the less time I spend editing our own photos, the more time I have to hang out with my family.

Last weekend I planned a client bubble bath session after the cake smash. I called in Doug to be my assistant carrying several 5 gallon buckets of water up a hill. I also asked him to stay for the session and grab a few shots of behind the scenes. I plan to get some professional shots done next spring for my website and pages when I can fit into my skinny jeans again.

This first image? LOVE IT! And yes, that my new hair cut/color, another love.

 Here is a preview of few sneak peeks of clients I have photographed in the last few weeks.

What I have learned thus far in this field is self taught and with the guidance of my friend Jenna who was a pre-school teacher turned photographer. I only wished we lived closer. Over the last few weeks she helped me with the color and design of my new logo. I can't thank her enough for working on this for me, I love how it turned out!

Now it's time to order packaging and updated business cards.
