I am TRYING to branch out in the photography world, doing something different once in a whole. I love color, clarity and lightness. I guess you could say I am a wimp when it comes to trying new things.
I follow quite of few blogs these days, but two of the blogs I follow capture natural light like no other. The thing I like about these blogs is that they are about real life, capturing real moments of every day. Honestly if I didn't have to shoot in a studio I never would, it feels unnatural---I am outdoor kind of girl. I am missing summer and LONG days of natural light that accompany it.
Our house is old, 100 + plus years. It has caricature---you probably have seen the old wood floors in many previous posts. We have 9 foot original windows and original woodwork, but what we don't have it light. Both of our main entrances have porches which hinder natural light from coming in the house and the position of our house only allows light to flow in our kitchen and dining room in the early morning and about mid morning we have some light in our bedroom. Needless to say the flash gets a work out in our house. So---why am I talking about all of this light? Light is the most important thing when it comes to photography.
This morning I tried to challenge myself with the sun streaming into the kitchen window during breakfast.
Of you scroll down to the I miss summer post---that was my other attempt to branch out. See, I am trying!

These are great, Amanda! And the PERFECT spot to practice! Look at that beautiful light spilling in that window onto your beautiful boy! I especially like the second from the last one where he's looking out the window. Look at that flare!! Lovely.
ReplyDeleteWinters in MN are hard, aren't they? I just search for the light in my home, just like you have. Keep practicing, you are off to a wonderful start!!
Girlfriend, I'd say you totally nailed it! I've been trying to get this kind of light for over a year now. What is your secret?! We don't get much light in our house either, especially in the fall and winter. Hard to practice the lighting part when you lack the light. ;) I really love that second shot. Nice job!!
ReplyDeleteOh wow, I love them, especially the one 3rd from the bottom. The way he's leaning back with his arms and mouth open wide, makes me think all that light is coming directly from him.
ReplyDeleteNice job!
